Current area is 360 sq km. The Turag River flows from the northwest corner and joins the Buriganga River in the south and the Bali River in the north to the east. 13 km from Zeropoint (Nur Hossain Square in front of GPO). Shitalaksha on the east (target of common people) makes it separate from Narayanganj (pre-Mughal period Subarnagram / Sonargaon / Vaidyerbazar), Bali / Tongi / Kahardariya river Gazipur (formerly Banavawal) in the north and Buriganga Munshiganj in the southeast. The city has 3 bus terminals for road travel. 12 km from Zeropoint. Gabtali to the west, 6 km. Mohakhali to the north and 4 km. East Sayedabad. Buses ply from these two terminals to the eastern, western and southern districts of the country. Similarly, buses ply in the northern districts from Mohakhali terminal. Apart from this, there are regular trains from Kamalapur railway station to different parts of the country and various boats from Sadarghat. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at the northwest end of Uttara area to the north of the city. Public-private buses ply side by side on various roads inside the city. There are also taxicabs, rickshaws, motorized tricycles, tampos and horse-drawn carriages. The lion's share of the city's residents come from different parts of the country. Only 75% of the inhabitants of the southern part known as 'Old Dhaka' speak a particular language. The name of that language is 'Dhakaiya language'. It has a mix of Hindi, Urdu and Bengali. From international to standard hotels and motels are scattered everywhere. There are also plenty of places to visit in different parts of the country.

বর্তমান বি¯তৃতি ৩৬০ বর্গ কিমি.। তুরাগ নদী উত্তরপশ্চিম কোণ থেকে প্রবাহিত হয়ে দক্ষিণ দিকে বুড়িগঙ্গা এবং বালি নদী উত্তর থেকে পুবদিকে শীতলক্ষার সাথে মিলিত হয়েছে। জিরোপয়েন্ট (জিপিও’র সামনের নূর হোসেন চত্বর) থেকে ১৩ কিমি. পুবদিকে শীতলক্ষা (সাধারণ মানুষের লক্ষ্যা) এটিকে নারায়ণগঞ্জ (্প্রাকমুঘল আমলের সুবর্ণগ্রাম/সোনারগাঁ/বৈদ্যেরবাজার), উত্তরে বালি/টঙ্গী/কহরদরিয়া নদী গাজীপুর (অতীতের বনভাওয়াল) এবং দক্ষিণপুবে ধলেশ্বরীসহ বুড়িগঙ্গা মুন্সিগঞ্জ থেকে পৃথক করেছে। শহরটিতে সড়কপথের যাতায়তের জন্য ৩টি বাসটার্মিনাল রয়েছে। জিরোপয়েন্ট থেকে ১২ কিমি. পশ্চিমে গাবতলী, ৭ কিমি. উত্তরে মহাখালী এবং ৪ কিমি. পুবে সায়েদাবাদ। এ টার্মিনাল দুটি থেকে দেশের পুব, পশ্চিম ও দক্ষিণে অবস্থিত জেলাগুলোতে বাস চলাচল করে। একইভাবে উত্তর অংশের জেলাগুলোতে বাস চলাচল করে মহাখালী টার্মিনাল থেকে। এ ছাড়া কমলাপুর রেলস্টশন থেকে দেশের বিভিন্ন অংশের অভিমুখে নিয়মিত রেলগাড়ি এবং সদরঘাট থেকে বিভিন্ন রকম নৌযান চলাচল করে। শহরের উত্তর দিকে উত্তরা এলাকার উত্তরপশ্চিমপ্রান্তে হজরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমান বন্দর। শহরের ভেতর বিভিন্ন সড়কে সরকারি-বেসরকারি বাস পাশাপাশি চলাচল করে। আরও রয়েছে ট্যাক্সিক্যাব, রিকশা, মোটর চালিত ত্রিচক্রযান, ট্যাম্পো ও ঘোড়ারগাড়ি। শহরের বাসিন্দাদের সিংহভাগ এসেছে দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে। কেবল দক্ষিণ প্রান্তীয় ‘পুরনো ঢাকা’ নামে পরিচিত অংশটির ৮৫% বাসিন্দা বিশেষ একটি ভাষায় কথা বলে। সে ভাষার নাম ‘ঢাকাইয়া ভাষা’। সেটিতে হিন্দি, উর্দু ও বাংলার মিশেল রয়েছে। আন্তর্জাতিক থেকে শুরু করে সাধারণ মানের হোটেল, মোটেল ছড়িয়ে আছে সর্বত্র। বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে বেড়ানর উপযোগী জায়গাও প্রচুর।
