Curzon Hall

Location South of Suhrawardy Udyan. However, it has already been said that the name of the area during the Mughal subedari period was Musa in Bagh. He built the British Government's Dhaka office in Musa, Bagh. It was inaugurated on 14 February 1904 by the then Viceroy, Lord Curzon. And since that source, it is still known as 'Curzon Hall'. In the middle of this long north-facing building on the east-west side is the entrance of the royal procession which has risen a few steps. The rest is two-storied. There is a long verandah in front of each floor and a row of rooms behind it. However, there is a huge hall behind the entrance. The entire giant installation has a maroon coating on the exterior. The architectural style is a hybrid of Mughal and European traditions, the second instance of which is still rare today. In front is a spacious courtyard adorned with beautiful plants. At present the activities of the Faculty of Science of Dhaka University are being conducted in it.

কার্জন হল

অবস্থান সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানের দক্ষিণে। তবে আগেই বলা হয়েছে যে, মুঘল সুবেদারি আমলে এলাকাটির নাম ছিল বাগ-এ মুসা। সে বাগ-এ মুসায় ইংরেজ সরকারের ঢাকাস্থ কর্মকেন্দ্র ভবন হিসেবে খ্রি. ১৯০৪ সালের ১৪শে ফেব্রুয়ারি তদানীন্তন ভাইসরয় লর্ড কার্জন উদ্বোধন করেছিলেন। আর সে সূত্র ধরেই আজও ‘কার্জন হল’ নামে পরিচিত হয়ে আসছে। পুব-পশ্চিমে লম্বা উত্তরমুখী এ ভবনটির মাঝখানে রয়েছে কয়েক ধাপে উঁচু হয়ে ওঠা রাজকীয় জৌলুশের প্রবেশঘর। বাকি অংশ দোতলাকার। প্রতি তলার সামনের অংশে রয়েছে লম্বা বারান্দা ও সেটির পেছনে এক সারি কোঠা। তবে প্রবেশঘরটির পেছনে রয়েছে বিশাল একটি হলঘর। বিশালাকারের গোটা স্থাপনাটির বহিরাবরণে রয়েছে মেরুন রঙের প্রলিপ্তি। স্থাপত্যরীতিতে মুঘল ও ইউরোপীয় প্রথাসিদ্ধতাকে পরস্পর আত্মীকৃত করে এমন-এক সংকর রূপ দেয়া হয়েছে যার দ্বিতীয় দৃষ্টান্ত আজও বিরল। সামনে রয়েছে দৃষ্টিনন্দন গাছপালা শোভিত প্রশস্ত চত্বর। বর্তমানে এটিতে পরিচালিত হচ্ছে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিজ্ঞান অনুষদের কার্যক্রম।
